The Hajar Mountains are home to the Wadi Wurayah. It's protected with more than 100 animals. A protected mountain was established in Fujairah and it's a long way to go to preserve the area. Wadi Wurayah is 169 sq km area, between Masafi and Khor Fakkan and Bidiyah. Also, it's large because it faces some serious threats. Wadi Wurayah is recommended as a must-see in UAE off-road and tourist guides. The Wadi is also home to a type of fresh water fish. In the UAE there are few protected areas which have management plans. The project would not have succeeded if it were not for money donated. The management board consists of local municipality officials. Staff from the ministry of the Enviroment and Water patrol daily and their main concern is to protect it from fishing.
